Sunset - North Wales Baby Photographer
This month’s theme as part of my mentoring programme run by Nina Mace is ‘Sunset’. The other photographers involved in the #collaborationnotcompetition project have interpreted the theme in various ways, but I took this classic silhouette shot of my husband and our daughter on the beach on holiday in West Wales. It’s really rare that I get to go out this late with Elsi in tow as she’s only 3 years old, so this is the first time I’ve managed to get a shot of her and the sunset together! The only other time I’ve seen the sunset with Elsi this summer is when she’s been in the back of the car and I’ve been driving down the coast road to try and get her to sleep…
I love this photo because even though it’s a silhouette, you can see the connection between Dave and Elsi. I have some others from the same shoot that are shot from a bit further back, and although I know that it’s him and her, and they’re still beautiful photos, they’re more about the sunset and less about them. I guess it’s nice to have a mix of both :)
For the photographers reading this – as with 90% of all the photos I take, I used my Canon 5d MK iv and my 70-200 2.8L at 200mm and wide open at f2.8. It was taken at 8.15pm, around 10 minutes before the sun actually set. I would have loved to have kept shooting after the sun had set, to fully capture all the beautiful pinks and purples that the sky held that night, but Elsi had well and truly had enough by then and I didn’t want to push my luck. I’ll put it on my list of things to do next summer…
